Three decades of looking after travellers in Lakeside, Pokhara. Same family, same garden, same welcome.
I am Jitu Gurung, Managing Director of our family-run hotel, The Silver Oaks Inn. The hotel has been family-run since it was built by my cousin in 1996. As a family of Gurung people, we are originally from the Lamjung area of Nepal. This magnificent area and our home village is near the starting point of the world-famous Annapurna Circuit Trek.
Gurung people are well known for service as Gurkha soldiers in the UK, India, Singapore, Brunei and Nepal but, if I may mention, Gurung people have become famous for hospitality, too. We aim to continue that tradition as a family-run hotel, and especially to make you feel at home away from home during your travels to the lakeside destination of Pokhara.
I have personally been in the hotel and hospitality industry for over twenty years. When my cousin who founded the hotel moved to the UK, I joined the family business at Silver Oaks Inn with my sister, my brother and our extended family. You are always welcome here, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Jitu Gurung
Managing Director, The Silver Oaks Inn
The Gurung are one of the peoples of the Annapurna foothills, with villages scattered across Lamjung, Kaski and the valleys you'll walk through on your trek. In a Gurung home a guest is fed first, given the warmest seat and never allowed to leave hungry. We run the hotel the same way.
That's why guests write about our team driving a forgotten phone to the airport, packing breakfast for a 6am bus, or walking up to watch the sunrise over Annapurna with them.
The Silver Oaks Inn is built on a quiet lane in Lakeside, with a garden at its heart.
Trekkers heading for the Annapurnas find a home base. Many still come back, some for more than ten years running.
Jitu Gurung, with over twenty years in hospitality, takes over with his sister, brother and extended family.
Twenty rooms, a renovated set of bathrooms, a garden full of flowers and more than a thousand guest reviews.
Gurungs call themselves Tamu. Our festivals are full of colour: velvet blouses and woven shawls, coral and gold necklaces, drums and cymbals. A few highlights from the hills we come from.

Drums, cymbals and painted crowns come out for festivals and village celebrations.

Women's festival dress pairs rich velvet with heavy necklaces of coral and gold.

At the end of December Gurung communities across Nepal celebrate Lhosar with processions and dancing.
We want every guest to feel looked after, from the first message to the bus out of town. That means consistent quality, honest prices and people who care, every season.
